Damaging Lies

The following are some of the lies we are told, sometimes on a daily basis:

Sticks and stones may break my bones, but names will never hurt me.

What I don’t know can’t hurt me.

If I don’t believe it, it isn’t true.

I believe it; therefore, it is true.

There is no such thing as absolute truth.

Being good gets you into heaven.

There is no God.

There is no hell.

We all die and end up in a better place.

This is a free country, and I can do what I want.

Everyone is entitled to a free education, free full medical coverage, food stamps, free birth control, and money.

I don’t owe anyone anything.

It’s my right to do as I please.

It’s not really a baby.

Time heals all wounds.

The constitution calls for a separation of church and state.

The founding fathers of America were neither Christians, nor influenced by Christianity.

Money equals success equals happiness.

My personal financial mess is the bank’s fault.

The government can borrow its way out of debt.

The government can take better care of us than we can care for ourselves.

Ignorance is an excuse.

I didn’t mean to do it.

Let your conscience be your guide.

Before you think I’m pointing the finger at you, I confess I have swallowed many of these lies over the course of my life.  Some of these lies brought heartache.  Some brought financial crises.  Some brought me to the end of myself and turned me around.  Sometimes I take a bit and realize I’m about to swallow poison.

I don’t want to change my mind by whatever (political or emotional) wind is blowing.  I want to live by Truth, and the only place I can find it is in God’s Word.  God never changes, and His Word will stand forever.
