And the Shofar Blew

In the Old Testament, God called his people to action with the blast of the shofar, a ram's horn. God still calls his people today. In this relevant and timely contemporary novel, dynamic young preacher Paul Hudson is committed to building his church--but at what cost? As Paul's zeal and ambition build, he loses sight of the One who called him. As Paul and those around him struggle to discern what it truly means to live out their faith, they must ultimately choose between their own will or God's plan.

Young Paul Hudson enters the ministry with high ideals, but pure motives soon bow to a craving for the approval of his earthly father, the famous pastor of a megachurch. Paul's godly wife and angry son fall chief victims to his ambition, as he builds a congregation through manipulation and compromise. The original elders of the church never cease praying for the young pastor who once showed such promise. In the Bible, the Jewish people blew the Shofar as a call to repentance. When the Shofar blows for Paul will he give heed, or will he continue on the path to destruction? Meticulously plotted, Francine Rivers' new masterpiece, And the Shofar Blew, brims with unforgettable characters. A copy of this contemporary fiction novel belongs in the hands of anyone seeking to build God's true church—people, not buildings and programs.

This book is wonderful! It truly represents what the church in America is becoming if we don't repent and turn back to Jesus. This is a must read!

This book was like a page from my life. I've lived through the pain of watching people sacrificed for the sake of "growing" the church. This book was hard to read but so helpful in my healing process.

"And The Shofar Blew" is by far the most amazing book I have ever read. It resembles many churches in our culture today. Francine did a wonderful job articulating the different issues that pastors and families face when trying to "build" a church. I think that every pastor and lay person should read this book. It will be well worth your time!

No one in ministry wants to admit that they are serving the Lord in ministry for selfish purposes. However, those in ministry also know that sometimes the lines can become blurred and it's hard to tell when man's will is being done, and God's will is being done. This book was so insightful about the cost and consequences when God's truths are overshadowed by man's human nature.

"And the shofar blew is a great book. It has indeed opened my eyes to great things in the ministry. By God's grace am married to a pastor, and the book has fired me up to pray more for my husband, myself and my family at large. Francine well done! GOD BLESS YOU.

The church my family attended for over 2 decades has decided to become culturally relevant. I couldn't put the book down because it was like reading the story of my "former" church without the adultery aspect. The pattern had been set years earlier when it was made known that it was considered divisive and gossip-mongering to even discuss any opposition or difference of opinion one may have about the goings on or direction of the church. Accountability of the elders was only to each other and they were/are the problem. Now they have sold the building and are meeting in a school in a more upscale area until they can find property in that same area. Of course people have left but the reason given by the leadership is that "they are not acknowledging God's will". As if God only speaks to and through the elders and ministers. We are heartbroken and older members are sticking it out because they feel they have no where else to go. Thank you for writing this book. It helped me see that I was not crazy and divisive because I won't go along with this cultural relevant, watered down bought sermons, praise band, modern music megachurch mentality.

I have read the first couple of chapters of this book and I'm really enjoying it. I'm excited to see what's going to happen now that Paul is in this new church. I've recently read 'Atonement Child' and absolutely loved it! Such a fantastic book! Everybody should read that book - it's one you'll never forget.
