Early morning and late night dew forms only when air is dry and skies are clear.  What a picture of our spiritual life.

When life becomes dry and barren, take time in the morning and/or late at night to spend time with the Lord who loves you and will quench your thirst.

Rick and I just witnessed the most amazing blast of Autumn colors coming in while in Alaska.  The scenery changed overnight from thousands of shades of green to a land carpeted red and orange, and pops of gold and yellow.  We stood on our hotel balcony and drank it all in.

What’s amazing is the Autumn colors are always there. During spring and summer, leaves produce the chlorophyll responsible for the green when photosynthesis harnesses the sunlight, converts water and carbon dioxide into food.  With shortened days, there is less sunlight. Photosynthesis stops.  The carotenoid pigment reveals the reds, oranges, yellows and golds that have been hidden during the light-bright days.   It only last a brief moment in time, and then winter comes.

Now that I’m home, my mind is turning toward the back yard and planting bulbs and flowers.  It takes good soil to make flowers grow.  The best soil for planting is fertile, loose, well-drained and rich in nutrients.  Earth worms work hard at accomplishing all of those things.  Worm castings are rich in nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium and other necessary micro-nutrients to enrich the soil.  An earthworm produces its weight in castings every day – 1/3 of a pound a year!  Not only do they produce a lot of fertilizer, they spread it around through tunnels that also aerate the soil.  They have glands that secrete calcium carbonate that can change acid or alkaline soil to a neutral pH over time.

Problems and stress worm their way into our lives.  When we keep our focus on the Lord, our faith will grow and blossom.
