Lessons from Geese

Years ago, my husband gave me a gold necklace with two small golden geese flying side by side to celebrate our anniversary.  The geese represent eternal love.

Geese mate for life.  If a goose becomes too old or sick to continue in formation, the mate and another will fly with the weaker between them to a place with food and water.  The two will wait and comfort the weaker one until it is able to fly or dies.  Only then will the stronger geese rejoin and are welcomed by another flock.

Geese fly in a V formation.  The goose in front actually creates air movement that makes it easier for the birds flying behind.  When the lead bird grows weary, another moves into lead position.  The oldest and the youngest geese fly at the back and honk like a cheering section for those ahead.   By working together as a unit, these birds can fly great distances that they could never accomplish alone.

May we stay faithful and committed to our spouses “until death do us part”.  May we take turns in leadership position and cheer one another on for the long journey ahead.  And may we always welcome newcomers and the lost.

If only we humans had the sense that God gave a goose! : )

I really like" Lessons from Geese". My husband died 35years ago, at the age of 35. I have never married again. I have always had God in my like and he has always supplied my needs. In some ways I guess I am like the geese. I have just read two of the Mark of the Lions series. I get so much from your books. God Bless You.

What a beautiful symbol of the loving bond that God creates for us not to be alone. Marriage is always hard work but very rewarding and glorifying to God.
May we always seek him to hold us together.

wow, this is just great. its true love indeed.

This piece is so touching....bringing my husband to mind. He has carried me for the last 10 years, always doing for me before himself. Now that I am able to be independent without needing someone around all the time, our relationship has become even more special. God has seen me through many tough years, but with his help and my husbands unselfish love, I could not ask for things to be any better.

I would like to thank Francine Rivers for her beautiful words, not only here, but in her books.

AS I READ ON, I COULD FEEL THE LOVE AND COMPANIONSHIP IN THIS MESSAGE. THIS IS THE KIND OF LOVE GOD MEANT FOR US. I PRAY THAT WE HUMANS WILL TRY HARD TO WALK AND LIVE IN THIS LOVE GOD HAS BREATH IN OUR HEART.
