Namibia’s Stenocara Beetle

In Southwestern Africa, there is a little black beetle with a grooved and bumpy back.  Each day, this small creature climbs a sand dune before dawn and waits for the fog to announce the approaching sunrise.  As it waits, tiny droplets of water form on its water-repellent casing.  As the day begins, the beetle bows its head to the ground so that the water can trickle down the waxy grooves and into it’s mouth. And thus, it receives enough water to sustain it through the day.

Our lives in this world can be like the hot desert of Namibia, but God continues to sustain us through the living water of His Word.  May we rise like the Israelites to gather manna from God’s Word.  May we drink deeply and be replenished and refreshed by His promises.  And may we walk through each day filled with His Holy Spirit.

Oh, thank you for sharing this. First of all, I am in the process of writing a novel set in Namibia so this was timely information.

The need for me to bow in worship and the Word strikes me as such an important part of my life. How easily I forget or allow other "more important" matters to creep into that space. I need to remind myself of the sustaining power of God and give Him all the praise.

I appreciate your gift of writing and enjoy your insight.

Just enough to sustain it through the day....I need enough of God each morning by His Word and His Presence to sustain me through the day
